Weaving is work, and work has a culture around it. Songs keep the shuttle in time, counting rhymes keep the warp true, and a motif on a border can tell you which community wove it and for what occasion. None of it is written down: it is taught at the loom, by doing. बुनाई एक काम है, और हर काम के साथ उसकी अपनी संस्कृति चलती है। गीत ढरकी की ताल सँभालते हैं, गिनती की तुकबंदियाँ ताने को सधा रखती हैं, और किनारी का एक बूटा बता सकता है कि उसे किस समुदाय ने और किस अवसर के लिए बुना। यह सब कहीं लिखा नहीं होता: यह करघे पर, करके सिखाया जाता है।

Cloth has always travelled. From village haats to caravan cities, handloom moved along rivers, coasts and grand trunk roads, carrying patterns and stories with it. A new loom is blessed before the first warp is tied, festival calendars decide which colours are woven when, and temple, tree and river shapes recur along borders. These are the beliefs and ceremonies that sit behind the pattern. नया करघा पहला ताना बाँधने से पहले पूजा जाता है, त्योहारों का पंचांग तय करता है कि कब कौन-से रंग बुने जाएँ, और किनारियों पर मंदिर, वृक्ष तथा नदी की आकृतियाँ बार-बार लौटती हैं। नमूने के पीछे यही आस्थाएँ और संस्कार हैं।

There is no single textbook of the loom. Dye recipes, knot counts and loom repairs live in the hands of communities, passed from master to apprentice over years of watching and doing.
